🏦 Bank reconciliation in ten minutes a day

Import or sync the statement, match lines to invoices and bills, and handle fees and transfers with reconciliation models.

Get the statement in

Either the bank is synchronised (lines arrive automatically) or you import the file the bank gives you (CSV, OFX, CAMT) from the journal's menu on the Accounting dashboard.

Match the lines

Open the journal's Reconcile view. For each statement line Odoo proposes the invoice or bill with the same amount and reference. Check and click Validate. If a payment covers several invoices, select them all; if it is partial, keep the open balance.

Fees, transfers and recurring lines

Reconciliation models (Accounting > Configuration) turn repeated lines into one click: "Bank fees" to the fee account, "Transfer" between your own accounts, or a rule that matches by label.

Ending the day

The journal's running balance should equal the bank's balance. If it doesn't, the difference is usually a line matched to the wrong invoice or a missing fee.

Don't

  • Don't create a new customer payment from the reconciliation screen when an invoice exists - match the invoice instead, or you will have an unapplied payment to clean up later.
  • Don't delete statement lines. Mark the wrong ones and let the accountant decide.
