Odoo Enterprise is priced per user, per month. In September 2026 Odoo changed its price list and, alongside Odoo 20, introduced a new and much cheaper user type: the Light User. For companies with many employees who only need their own HR tasks or shop-floor work, this can cut the licence bill substantially.
Key takeaways
- Odoo has three plans: One App Free, Standard (all apps on Odoo Online) and Custom (all apps plus Studio, multi-company, external API and a choice of hosting).
- On Odoo's US price list, Standard is US$24.90 and Custom US$49.00 per user per month with yearly billing, for the first 12 months.
- The new Light User is listed at US$8.90 (reported at €7.90 in Europe) for employees who only handle their own HR tasks and front-line work.
- Portal users and online shoppers are free, but every active employee record without a user account counts as a light user.
- Existing customers keep their contract prices for users already ordered; renewals can rise by at most 7% per year.

What changed in September 2026
Announcing the new price list on 24 September 2026, Odoo described a partial increase of around 20%, which it linked to higher salary and hosting costs. In euros, the basic plan stays at €19.90, the plan for larger companies rises from €29 to €35 per user per month, and the new light user category costs €7.90 a month, available when the company has at least one full user, as reported by the Brussels Times.
Who you pay for, and who is free
Odoo's Enterprise Subscription Agreement (version 13, September 2026) defines who is billed:
| Account type | Billed? | Definition |
|---|---|---|
| User | Yes, full price | "Any user account indicated as active in the Software, that is not a Light User." |
| Light User | Yes, light price | An active account designated as a Light User, or "any active employee record (from the human resources App) not linked to an active non-portal user account." |
| Portal user | No | Customers, suppliers and other external people using the portal. |
| Website shopper | No | Visitors placing eCommerce orders. |
| Deactivated account | No | Archived users are not counted. |
The second part of the light user definition is easy to miss: an employee record in the Employees app with no user account still counts as a light user. Employees who have left should be archived, not just left in place.
What is a Light User in Odoo 20?
According to Odoo's pricing page, light users can handle their own time off, expenses, appraisals and attendance, and have read-only access to Knowledge. As employees, they can also receive payslips, use the Point of Sale, and use the Manufacturing shop floor. In short: people who mainly look after their own HR tasks or do front-line work at a till or a workstation. Anyone who needs to run sales, purchasing, projects or accounting needs a full user.
How Odoo 20 decides who is light
We looked at how this works inside Odoo 20 itself. Each app declares which of its access groups are "light", for example taking your own time off, recording your own attendance, viewing your own payslips, the manufacturing shop floor and tablet timer, the barcode app, planning and quality checks. A user stays light only while all of their access is on that list. Give them any other access, such as managing sales orders or confirming purchases, and they become a full user.
What it means for your bill: a worked example
Take a company with 60 people: 15 in the office who work in sales, purchasing and accounting, and 45 on the shop floor and in the warehouse who mainly record their time off and attendance and work at shop-floor stations. Using the US prices above after the first year, with yearly billing:
| Set-up | Standard plan | Custom plan |
|---|---|---|
| All 60 as full users | 60 × US$31.10 = US$1,866 | 60 × US$61.00 = US$3,660 |
| 15 full users + 45 light users | US$466.50 + US$400.50 = US$867 | US$915 + US$400.50 = US$1,315.50 |
| Saving per month | US$999 (54%) | US$2,344.50 (64%) |
Illustration only, assuming the light user price applies per user per month like the other prices. Your price depends on your country, plan, billing period and contract; Odoo provides light user licences through an Odoo Advisor.
Watch-outs before you change your users
- Employee records count. Active employees without a user account are billed as light users, so archive leavers.
- One extra right makes a full user. Review each person's access; a single sales or purchase permission moves them to full price.
- Existing contracts. New prices apply to users you have not ordered yet. At renewal, prices below the current list price can rise by up to 7% per year (agreement section 5.2).
- First-year discount. It applies for 12 months to the initial users ordered; budget for the full price afterwards.
- Exceeding your count. Extra users and light users are charged at the list price in force for the rest of the term, and Odoo must be told promptly (sections 5.1 and 6.1).
- Other costs. AI features use credits bought through in-app purchases, and Odoo.sh hosting and implementation are separate.
