Breaking changes to know first

get_param() / set_param() removed

ir.config_parameter get_param() and set_param() were removed in Odoo 20.

What to do: Use the typed accessors get_str / get_int / get_float / get_bool and set_str / set_int / ...

Binary fields no longer take base64 bytes

Odoo 20 binary fields raise TypeError when given bytes such as the output of base64.b64encode().

What to do: Write raw content (BinaryBytes / attachment raw), or decode base64 to a str first.

read_group() takes the _read_group signature

In Odoo 20 read_group() takes groupby and aggregates and returns tuples, like _read_group().

What to do: Use formatted_read_group() for dictionary results, or adapt to read_group(domain, groupby, aggregates).

Record rules (ir.rule) replaced by ir.access

Odoo 20 replaced record rules (ir.rule) with access records that carry a domain (ir.access).

What to do: Use env['ir.access'] with a domain instead of ir.rule.

Coverage. Odoo 16 to 17 and 17 to 18 compare Community modules only (the Enterprise 16 and 17 sources are not available to us). Odoo 18 to 19 and 19 to 20 include Community and Enterprise modules. Everything here comes from a static read of the Odoo source code: a field counts as removed only when no parent model, mixin or delegated model still provides it. Fields created dynamically at run time can be missed, and entries we could not confirm are marked as low confidence.
